Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy
Opened August, 2011
Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy is an all-male secondary school in Dallas ISD. It is located in Oak Cliff, Dallas, Texas, and it is the first all-male public school in Texas. The school was formerly known as B.F. Darrell Elementary School. Nakia Douglas is the principal
Usually, when you think of an all-male school you assume it is a private school, but, this school is different because it is a public school and there are not many (if any) all-male public schools in Texas.
The school uniforms consist of navy blazers, blue oxford shirts, black slip on or lace up dress up shoes, and grey dress slacks. Also, grey ties must be worn with 6th-8th grade uniforms, and navy ties for 9th-12th grade. Uniforms are common in Dallas public schools but certainly not private school style uniforms.
The motto of the Barack Obama Academy is, “Believe. Achieve. Succeed.” which is exactly what the many young men who attend here do.
