DFW Airport
Built 1969-1973
DFW airport is located in between Dallas and Fort Worth. It has become one of the world’s busiest airports since 1974 when it officially opened business. Today, it is the fourth busiest airport in the world in terms of aircraft movement, and the airport covers more than 26.9 square miles. The airport serves the metroplex, Dallas and Fort Worth, because Dallas Love Field, the original Dallas airport, became congested and had little room to expand, and the Greater Southwest International Airport, the old Fort Worth airport, was abandoned due to a decline in air traffic.
The first landing of a supersonic Concorde in the United States took place at DFW Airport in 1973 to commemorate the airport's completion. The airport is home to 20 airlines including of 11 domestic airlines and 9 foreign flag airlines. American Airlines has a huge presence in DFW since their headquarters is right next to the airport in DFW.
