Seagofest

Seagofest is an annual event in the small city of Seagoville near Dallas. It is sponsored by the Seagoville Chamber of Commerce, and it started in 1991, when Seagoville High School had its first homecoming parade at C.O. Bruce Central Park. Since then, small groups, little league teams, area businesses, and other organizations have joined in the parade each October. At the end of the parade, there is a carnival which features rides, games, food, and live music.
During my Middle School years at Seagoville, I was one of the lucky ones who was actually in the parade, and I was able to experience first-hand the energy and spirit that a parade brings to the community. The parade started on one side of Seagoville, and then we marched about 3 miles to the carnival. Before arriving, hundreds of Seagovillians were waiting for us. It was a great experience, and even though I don’t go to school in Seagoville anymore, I always look forward to Seagofest.

The Town of Seagoville was founded in 1876 by T.K. Seago. Seago cleared his land and built the first store in the area. Seago was postmaster of Seagoville in 1881, and was known to be in the area until at least 1883.  Seago moved from Seagoville to Comanche, Texas, where he represented Comanche County in the Texas State Legislature.
