Dallas Mapping Project
1) What interested you in cars at such a young age?
My family members always showed an interest, and at a young age it stuck to me, and everything about them would just catch my attention.
2) As a teenager how much time did you spend working on cars?
Well you’d think a regular kid would like to spend his weekend playing sports or video-games but I’d rather be at the shop with my father. So I would spend more time than you could probably imagine.
3) Do your skills help you in your everyday life?
To a certain extent they do, they allow me to look at problems differently .
4) What inspires you to do what you do?
Well I’ve been interested in this since I was young, and now I can actually make a living from what I like to do.
5) What advice would you give to teenagers who would like to pursue a similar career?
If you like what you do there’s no reason why you shouldn’t pursue it later in life. So, I would tell them to just keep learning everyday and finish school. Your skills can always be enhanced, to this day I still learn things I didn’t know before.
6) What is the hardest thing to repair on a car? Why?
In my opinion it would be the transmission, there’s just so many components that come together to make it function. Being one of the most important parts on a car, you must have patience to make sure your work is done well.
7) Do you like to work on smaller sized vehicles rather than bigger sized vehicles?
Its all the same, although having more arm space under the hood is sometimes a bit more comfortable. But, in the end, the work is the same. At times, it is a bit hard working on big trucks, but I really don’t have a preference.
8) What challenges do you face in your day-to-day life?
You’d think I’d face a lot, but as a mechanic I may have to face the occasional rude customer, but other than that everything goes pretty smooth.
9) Could you see yourself in any other profession?
I’ve thought about changing my line of work at times, but when I really think about it, cars are my life. It would be like changing a lifestyle from one day to the next- it’s not something you’d want to do.
10) Do you see yourself doing this for the rest of your life?
Yes, it just feels right to me. It’s something I want to do when I wake up in the morning. I want to show my kids what I have learned, and pass on to them what my father taught me. It’s a family thing and that’s why I respect it..
