Perot Museum of
Nature & Science
2012
At last, Dallas and its visitors have the ability to take an indoor nature walk and to explore the secrets of our universe all in the same place. The Perot Museum of Nature and Science located in downtown Dallas near Victory Park, opened its doors to the public in December 2012. The entire museum is a living science lesson, with five floors of permanent exhibit halls filled with hands-on activities for children and adults alike. The building was designed by Thom Mayne, a Los Angeles-based architect, educated at the University of Southern California in 1969. He is the principal of Morphosis, an architectural firm in Santa Monica, California. At the Perot, Mayne demonstrates a host of dynamic architectural features and the building seems to come to life as if it were a living organism.
The Perot’s predecessor, the Science Place Museum was founded in 1946. The museum’s mission is to inspire children and adults through the worlds of science and nature. The Science Place is actually part of the larger institution called the Dallas Museum of Nature and Science at Fair Park, not far from the amazing new Perot Museum of Nature & Science.
