TEDxSMU
First TEDxSMU was in 2010
TEDxSMU is a non-profit organization that is gaining tremendous popularity in Dallas. The first TED talk was in 1984 at a four day conference in California. TEDxSMU is a one day event, with a host of speakers each getting 18 minutes to share information, inspirational ideas, and cutting edge technological advances with the audience. TED events are fully planned and coordinated independently.
TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design, and TED’s mission is to present, “ideas worth spreading.” Richard Saul Wurman founder of TED, and TEDxSMU is a local program designed to bring these stimulating dialogues to Dallas. There are other programs like TEDxSMU including TEDWomen, and TEDMED. TEDWomen is a conference that addresses women’s themes, gender issues and reproductive health. TEDMED is an annual conference based on health and medicine. TEDxSMU brings together ideas and interesting people from around the world and around the corner.
TEDxKids is a half day TED style conference designed just for middle school students. The presentations are rapid fire and have incredible speakers and deomonstrations.
Since it started in 1984, there have been many inspriational TED talks from well known, and not so well known, speakers including Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, and Al Gore. At his TED talk, Bill Gates said “I want to admit that I am an optimist. Any tough problem, I think it can be solved”. After a TED event, almost everyone in attendance leaves inspired and motivated.
