Cold War Air Museum (CWAM)
Lancaster Regional Airport, Lancaster, TX
The Cold War Air Museum is a non-profit flight museum that preserves aircraft in a 45,000 square foot three hangar facility. CWAM’s purpose is to exhibit aircraft from the Cold War era, and to help preserve and maintain them in flying condition for local airshows. The museum prepares the aircraft to the highest standards to ensure that they are the highlight of every show.
The museum has aircraft from all over the world including the Soviet Union (currently Russia), Czechoslovakia (currently Czech Republic and Slovakia), Bulgaria, China, France, and the U.S. Many of the aircraft that helped shape the Cold War era are in CWAM’s possession and can be seen in one of the hangars, or flying in the skies of Lancaster, which is outside of Dallas. The museum has lots to offer and is open to anyone who is interested and curious about these historical flying machines.
The Cold War Air Museum has three MI-24 Hind helicopters. Two of them are in flying condition and the other is on public display as a Gate Guard. Each helicopter seats 8 people or 4 stretchers, and has a maximum speed of about 208 MPH. These incredible choppers are the only three on public display in the United States.
