The artist James Turrell was born on May 6, 1943 in Los Angeles, California. His primary focus is light, color, and space, and he is known for is extraordinary art installations using natural light. One of his art installations within Dallas’ Nasher Sculpture Center was “destroyed”, as a neighboring high rise unexpectedly came into view. The installation is a cube that consists of a granite exterior. Before entering the cube, you are brought into the artwork by a curved wall with blue light. On the inside, the cube is open to the sky allowing natural light to penetrate inside. As the sun changes position throughout the day, the installation is always changing; from sunrise to sunset.
